The combined pollution of persistent organic pollutants and heavy metal is a kind of specialand hard-disposal environmental phenomenon, which is a great threat to human health andentironment. A lot of heavy metal and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was generated in theheavy metal smelter, which caused a serious negative effect to the ambient and human beings. The measurement of smeltery and ambient indicated the environment of this district waspolluted seriously, especially in water, all the two kinds of pollutant are very high, overrun thestandard greatly, in pond 1, the concentration of As is 0.55mg/l and the concentration ofnaphthalene is 20.57μg/l. At the same time, the following issues were studied withPhanerochaete chrysosporium: The study of optimum for heavy metal biosorption; The study ofoptimum for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons degradation; The study of intermediate productsand the pathway of degradation; The interaction between the two kinds of pollutant inremediation. The study of heavy metal adsorption indicated, the adsorption rate of this fungi to lead iongot to 70-80% in optimum. At the same time, after some chemical pretreatment, the adsorptionrate to lead ion can greatly improved to 94.65%.The study ofpolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) degradation indicated, the degradationrate of Naphthalene, Phenanthrene, Anthracene can got 100%, 99.1%, 63.5% respectively. Themain intermediate products of Phenanthrene are 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid and hexanedioicacid, and then accessed TCA-cycle finally exhaustive degraded to CO2 and H2O. Theremediation mechanism of this fungi including adsorption and degradation. In some extend, the adsorption of heavy metal can not be affect by PAHs, the degradation ofsome kinds of PAHs can be affected by heavy metal, all heavy metal can improve thedegradation of anthracene, the largest degradation rate is 95.30%; some heavy metal affect thedegradation rate negatively, for example, the degradation rate of Phenanthrene is 18.29% in thepresence of zinc, copper and cadmium also have some negative effect to the degradation ofPhenanthrene.
