In this dissertation, six new azobenzene monomers with double-bond were incorporated into POSS through hydrosilication to prepare the inorganic/organic hybrid nonlinear optical materials. Their structures were characterized and the thermal properties, nonlinear optical properties were investigated, respectively. The main contents were summarized as follows:1. The principle of nonlinear optical and the material development, and performance requirements were reviewed briefly. The latest advancement of organic/inorganic hybrid nonlinear optical materials was summarized in detail. The POSS-based inorganic/organic hybrid materials were also introduced here.2. Twelve compounds containing six new terminal ethylenes with azobenzene objective monomers were synthesized, their structures were characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectra.3. Twelve organic/inorganic hybrid objective compounds were synthesized through hydrosilication. The effect of different reaction condition on hydrosilication yield, such as catalyst, temperature and solvent, were investigated in details. These hybrid molecules structures were characterized by FT-IR, UV, 1H-NMR, 29Si-NMR and GPC.4. The thermal properties of monomers and hybrid molecules were measured by TGA. The effect ofnano-size POSS moiety on the thermal property of hybrid materials was discussed.5. The nonlinear optical properties of six monomers and some hybrid molecules were studied with z-scan technology. The experimental results reveal that they all possess good nonlinearity. The relationship between nonlinear optical properties and molecular structures was discussed.
