Building fire is one of the most direct and serious disasters which threatens people's life and wealth. With the development of our country's economy, buildings' forms and functions are becoming more various, and the space is becoming larger. Large space building has many characteristics, such as various configuration and function, big fire load and complicated kinds of fire source and so on. So fire protection of large space building is different from ordinary building. It is an important subject of fire researches that studying on fire characteristic in large space building and providing protection method.Numerical simulation of fire scenario was done in a large space building------an airdrome storage using the fire field simulation software FDS4.06 and large eddy simulation method in this paper. There were four contrasts of fire scenarios including different locations of fire, different power of fire, different areas of vents and different wind conditions outside. Simulation results showed that both low level and high level fire agreed with the criterion of fire evaluation when the vents were small and the fire power was 1.2MW; The visibility in the storage descended under 13m when the vents were small, the fire source was low level and its power was 5MW, the condition in the storage would threaten the people's life; Extending the vents could lift smoke layer height, lower temperature of smoke and make visibility rise to a bound which ensures the evacuation of people safely. Wind outside the storage had an adverse impact on the exhaust system, such as it lifted smoke temperature, lowered smoke layer height and visibility. But the lateral wind in this paper didn't had a great impact on the spreading of smoke in the storage, so the design still agreed with the criterion of fire safety evaluation.The results achieved in the paper not only provided some bases and directions to the fire protection design of the airdrome storage, but also could be regarded as the reference of fire safety engineering research on other large space buildings.
