Evaluation Of Eco-environment Fragility In Dengkou County, Inner Mongolia, China

Eco-environment is the foundation concerning the survival and development of human beings. The eco-environment degrades day by day on earth, and has become an urgent and serious problem. The intensity of the human activity exceeds the bearing ability of the eco-environment, which has weakened the self-coordination ability of the earth and this tendency has become more obvious. Researches on the eco-environment fragility is necessary to the coordinated development of population, resources and environment, as well as to the development of human beings themselves. At present, researches on the eco-environment fragility have been launched in many aspects in the world. In our country, the most relevant researches have been mainly concentrated on the oasis in the northwest of China,Sichuan,the Loess plateau and the east of China, but researches on the oasis in Exorheic River basin of China are relatively few. Dengkou county of inner Mongolia is located in the farming-pastoral zigzag zone of China. Recently, because of the influence of natural factors and man-induced factors, the eco-environment in that area has become much fragiler than before, which makes the social economy development more difficult. In this thesis, by taking the eco-environment as the researching object, we have utilized the qualitative methods as well as the quantitative methods, analysing the dynamic change characteristic of eco-environment fragility from the aspects of climate, water resources, biology, sandy desertification, salinine-alkalization etc, we have evaluated the eco-environment fragility in Dengkou county, bringing forward the concrete Countermeasures of resuming and rebuilding the eco-environment in this region. The rational estimation of the eco-environment, therefore, is essential to the relevant government departments to make policies to ameliorate the fragile eco-environment in the farming-pastoral zigzag zone of China, offering the scientific basis for sustainable development of society and economy in Hetao irrigation district. The thesis is organized into six parts.The first part has explained the research background and the current research on the eco-environment fragility home and abroad. Also included in this part are the theoretical basis and rationale of the present research and the research methodology.The second part has summed up the survey of Dengkou county, the situation of eco-environment nowadays and the problems existing in the eco-environment in that area. To start with, the natural environment of Dengkou county including the climate, topography and landforms, soil,vegetation, water resources etc. are described. This is followed by a survey of the social economic situation in the research area from such respects as administrative regionalization, population, nationality, GDP, per capita net income, etc. Secondly, the situation of eco-environment nowadays in the researching area is illustrated. Finally, we expatiate on the problems existing in the eco-environment in the researching area, such as sandy desertification , water erosion, deepening salinine-alkalization, grassland degradation, decrease of water resources etc.The third part has evaluated the eco-environment fragility in Dengkou county. Firstly, in view of the problems existing in the eco-environment in the researching area and the principle of the evaluation,it takes BP Artificial Neural Network analysis as the evaluated method, this thesis has utilized the Principal Component Analysis to select the index of assessment. Secondly, the eco-environment fragility nowadays is evaluated by utilizing the BP Artificial Neural Network.The fourth part has analyzed the reasons of the fragile eco-environment in Dengkou county. Two possible reasons may account for the fragile eco-environment in this area: one is the natural reason, the other is man-induced reason. In recent decades, natural reasons such as climate, topography and landforms etc. have contributed to the eco-environment fragility, but the increasing unconscious human activities such as the estrepement, the excessive graze, the excessive utilizing water resource, vegetation destruction constitute the main factors influencing the eco-environment in this region,In the fifth part, according to the causes of eco-environment fragility, concrete Countermeasures are proposed to the guarantee coordinated development of the eco-environment in Dengkou county.The last part has summarized the whole thesis. In accordance with the deficiency existing in this research, the thesis has pointed out the respects to be further investigated.
