A main originate of natural benzaldehyde is nut. But because it's short of sources, small yield and high cost, people all over the world pay attention to looking for new resource and preparation of natural benzaldehyde. Cinnamon resources are abundant in our country. Cinnamon oil is the traditional export commodity of our country especially of Guangxi, an important method of solving the lack of natural benzaldehyde is prepared from cinnamaldehyde, which is also an effective mean of solving the deep process of cinnamaldehyde.The reaction process of preparing benzaldehyde by basic hydrolysis of cinnamaldehyde was studied. The optimal reaction condition was confirmed, the competition between basic hydrolysis of cinnamaldehyde and other side reactions was discussed, the product acetyl hydride was tracked, the effect of feed method on the yield of benzaldehyde was discussed and the method of the real-time monitor of the yield of benzaldehyde has been set up.The proportion of hexane and ethyl acetate was 15:1 was chosen to be the expanded matter, 0.2μl mixture was expanded 60-80 minutes at room temperature. 5-phenyl-2,4-pentadienal was isolated and purified by column chromatography.5-phenyl-2,4-pentadienal was characterized by GC-MS, UV and FTIR. In GC the retention time of 5-phenyl-2,4-pentadienal was 24.833 minutes, and the maximum absorption wavelength was 323 nm in UY, the characteristic absorption peaks of its was found in FTIR.
