Ionic liquids are organic liquids, which are composed entirely of ions atroom temperature or around the temperature. Because it has the unique meritsincluding good conductivity, wide electrochemical window, negligible vaporpressure, strong ability of dissolve, ionic liquid has been widely used in manyfields such as, organic synthesis, separation and electrochemistry.The ionic liquid of N-butyl-isoquinolinium gallium tetrachloride([BIQL]GaCl4) was synthesized, single crystals was obtained. The solubility of[BIQL]GaCl4 was studied in different solvent and it's crystal structure wascharacterized by X-ray diffraction analyses. [BIQL]GaCl4 crystal is in themonoclinic space group P21/c with a=7.1438(12)(?), b=14.3490(14)(?), c=16.3531(18)(?),β=94.885(7)o, V=1670.2(4)(?)3 for Z=4, R1=0.0266,wR2=0.0606 (Ⅰ>2.00σ(Ⅰ)), its calculated density is 1.582 g/cm3. The cation andanion of [BIQL]GaCl4 arrange orderly in pair and the results indicate thatcoulomb attraction is more dominant between cation and anion. [BIQL]GaCl4 islayer structure as mainlyπelectron plane of isoquinoline interleave and the layerdistance is 3.431(?), simultaneity weak local hydrogen bonds C—H…Cl exist.The electrochemistry of [BIQL]GaCl4 in diffenent molar fraction of GaCl3 and solution of [BIQL]GaCl4 in acetonitrile were studied. The effect of scan rateand temperature on electrochemical process of [BIQL]GaCl4 were discussed bycyclic voltammetry method in three-electrode cell, glassy carbon electrode asworking electrode, Pt wire as counter electrode, Al electrode as referenceelectrode.The electrochemical behavior of Al,Cu,Ag and stainless steel in[bmim]BF4 and solution of [bmim]BF4 in acetonitrile were studied. Theelectrochemical active and corrosion property of Al,Cu,Ag and stainless steelin [bmim]BF4 were discussed using cyclic voltammetry and Tafel curve. It wasindicated Al and stainless steel possess indifferent electrochemical, Cu and Agpossess electrochemical active.Chemical silvering on copper power was studied in medium of [bmim]BF4,because Cu and Ag show electrochemical active in [bmim]BF4 ionic liquid. Theresults indicate that chemical silvering on copper power is possible in ionicliquid no-aqueous system, which provide foundation for farther application ofionic liquid.
