Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)rosin ester was synthesized and the application on the emulsion poly- merization was studied in this paper.Firstly, Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)disproportionated rosin(DPR) ester was synthesized by acyl chlorination and esterification of DPR.The results showed that IR,13C NMR and GC-MS were effective methods for tracking the course of acylation and esterification reaction,and corroborated the structure of production.The optimum conditions of acyl chlorination and esterification were investigated as follows:molar ratio of DPR to PCl3 was 1:0.33,molar ratio of esterification was 1:1, reactiom temperature was 50℃and reaction time was 180min.Secondly,hybrid latex particles of Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester and polyacrylates were synthesized succesfully by miniemulsion polymerization.The influence of the type of initiator, surfactant,and the amount of initiator, surfactant, Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester on polymerize- tion were studied by monitoring the evolution of monomer conversion and particle size. The optimum conditions were indicated as follows: as initiator and surfactant, APS and SDS were 1% based on monomer;HD can control Ostwald effect of monomer liquid,and kept the particle size stable during the polymerization.Also,DSC indicated that Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester and acrylate polymer were relatively compatible in the hybrid miniemulsion.At last,we synthesized PSA with Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester and acrylates by emulsion polymerization.The performances of different glass transition temperature(Tg) and different contents of Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester were detected.It was found that the optimum Tg was -43.5℃,and the PSA with Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester had better tack,holding power and 180°peel stenghth.Along with the increase of Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester,the holding power had a rapid descend by reason of the polymerization manner,the tack and 180°peel stenghth had a augment trend.GPC and DSC also proved that Ethyl(β-acrylyloxy)DPR ester and acrylates polymer were relatively compatible in the PSA emulsion.
