Nowadays, biodegradation plastic has been the main subject in the world when every country pays more attention to the environmental protection. The research of the biodegradation material which is based on cellulose derivative has great impact on ecological balance, environmental protection and saving resources. The main contribution of this paper includes:First, through research on the degree substitution, insoluble residue amount and intrinsic viscosity of the production of acetylated wood pulp, the technology was fixed on as follows: activated time 3h, activated temperature 80℃, amount of acid is 9 times to that of pulp, acetylated time 2h, acetylated temperature 50℃, amount of sulfuric acid 2.50% and the molar rate of acetic anhydride is 2 times to that of the cellulose's hydroxyl group. The production had good properties with less insoluble residues and fine intrinsic viscosity, and it can be used as the base of biodegradation materials.Secondly, many characterizations such as chemistry titration, infrared spectra, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetry were used to characterize the production. It is shown that the main part of the production was cellulose acetate, and the insoluble residues were composed of glucomannan triacetate. Compared with chemistry titration, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance was a useful method to determine the degree of substitution and the distribution of substituents in the anhydroglucose units, but it had some defect to the production with high degree of substitution. And the decrystallization and thermal properties of the production increased as the degree of substitution increased.Thirdly, the propeties of the materials which were made from the production of acetylated wood pulp, polylactic acid and different plasticizing agents such as glycerol diacetate, glycerol triacetate, dimethyl phthalate and diethyl phthalate were analysised. The results reveal that there is some compatibility between the acetyl wood pulp and polylactic acid, and the glass transition temperature of polylactic acid of the material was decreased with the amount of polylactic acid increasing. The elongation of the material had improved when different plasticizing agents was added, and glycerol diacetate has best effect.Fourthly, through the experiment of CO2 production, it is indicated that the acetyl wood pulp has some biodegradation, and the biodegrability was affected by the degree of substitution, ratio of surface area and degree of polymerization. The biodegrability was enhanced with less degree of substitution, more ratio of surface area and low degree of polymerization. In a word, the production of acetylated wood pulp fit for development and usage for biodegradation materials.
