It is significant to characterize homemade CCF-1 T300 carbon fiber and study the properties and curing kinetics of its bismaleimide (BMI) resin composite in optimizing the properties of homemade carbon fiber and spreading its applications instead of import carbon fibers. The surfacial characteristics of the homemade CCF-1 T300 CF were comparatively analyzed with the other four import CFs by using SEM, AFM, FT-IR and XPS. The interfacial and mechanical properties of these carbon fibers reinforced bismaleimide resin composites (CF/BMI) were also investigated. Meanwhile, the curing kinetics of these CF/BMI composites were studied by DMTA. The FT-IR spectra showed that sizing agents applied to the five kinds of carbon fibers were all bisphenol A epoxy resin. The micrographs of SEM and AFM showed that sizing could cause the decrease in the roughness of the carbon fibers. XPS result showed that the ratio of O/C on the surface of CFs was increased by sizing, resulting in more active surface of CFs and the CF/BMI composites with better adhesion between fibers and matrix. The improvement of interfacial adhesion by sizing can be proved by the fact that the IFSS, ILSS and flexural properties of the sized CF/BMI composites had better properties than desized CF/BMI composites. Among these four kinds of T300 type CFs, the homemade sized CCF-1 T300 CF had the lowest roughness and most active surface, so its reinforced BMI composites had high IFSS and ILSS of 161MPa and 108MPa, respectively, and an average toughness GIC of 350 J/m2, which is similar to that of HTA T300 CF/BMI, but lower than that of T800 CF/BMI composite.The curing kinetics studies on the CF/BMI composites showed that temperature was the main factor influcing curing degree. The active groups on fiber surface had great effect on initial curing relax action time and activity energy. So the curing activity of the desized 9307 T300, HTA T300 and T300B CFs reinforced BMI composites became larger while the desized CCF-1 T300 and T800H reinforced BMI composites had lower activity energy because of the difference in the content of-COOH and -C=O.The consequent of post curing study proved that the best curing temperature of CF/BMI composite system was 180℃, under which the composite system could be totally cured and had a higher mechanical properties.
