Not only the mechanics performance of metal parts is related with its chemicalcomposition, but also with its metallographic structure. The metallographic examination isthe important method of controlling and evaluating product quality, and it is the importantmethod of developing new material, new technology and improving the intrinsic quality ofmetal product.To carry on the metallographic analysis, must prepare the sample which can be usedin the microscopic examination——metallographic sample. Usually, making themetallographic sample has several steps: sampling, inlaying, grinding and polishing. Thesampling technique is the first working procedure of the whole process, and it is oneimportant step in the metallographic research. At present, the abrasive cut-off machineapplies widely in the sampling, the primary cause is that the technical adaptation is good,the cutting speed is quick, the labor intensity is low, the operation is simple and the cuttingcost is low. There are many factors that affect the cutting quality and efficiency. Forexample, the material ingredient, the material hardness, the material diameter, the grindingwheel rotational speed and the feed rate, even the environment and so on. How to raise thequality and efficiency of the abrasive cut-off is an important topic.This thesis is focus on theories and experiment researching for key factors whichaffected abrasive cut-off quality and efficiencies, all the data coming from experiment onQ-300A metallographic sample cutting machine. By the experiment of single factor, itacquired the influence regulation between the different craft parameter with cutting qualityand efficiency. In the base of multi-factor orthogonal experiment, it acquired the actualsuperior process scheme, forecasts the superior process scheme and the important order ofthe factors. By the regression analysis on the test result, the regression equation whichinfluences the cutting quantity and efficiencies are acquired. The result showed, that thematerial ingredient, the material hardness, the material diameter, the grinding wheelrotational speed and the feed rate are the main factors that influence the quality andefficiencies, and systematic craft parameter of metallographic sample cutting are acquiredby this research, it's the significant meaning for actual manufacture in practice.After the thesis research result applied in practice, it obtained the good result. It avoids that operators setting the parameter blindly and it provided the theory and thepractice basis. The research dramatically raises the cutting quality and efficiencies.
