2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylphenol isolated from secondary matebolites of Aspergillus, was reported to have a certain insecticidal activity. In this thesis, the synthesis and bioactivities of 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylphenol were studied,the main results are as follows:1. 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylphenol was synthesized from 2-hydroxy-5- methylaceto- phenone by the methods of bromation, methylization, Baeyer-Villiger reaction, alcoholysis and Ullman, and 3,4,5-trimethoxytoluene was synthesized by bromation of p-cresol, methoxylation, and then methyliation . The structures were elucidated mainly based on 13CNMR and 1HNMR spectral data.2. By means of mycelium growth rate, all compounds had a certain fungicidal activity against Fusarium graminearum, Exserohilum turcicum, Botrytis cirerea, Alternaria brassicae, Pyricularia oryzae.Cav, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Alternaria longipes, Alternaria solani, Rhizoctonia cerealis, Bipolaris sorokiniana, Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysp- orum. Especially, 3-bromo-2-hydroxy-5-methylacetophenone and 2,6-dibromo-4-methyl- phenol had better activities against the mentioned twelve pathogens.3. The bioassay results showed 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylphenol had obvious insecticidal activity with mortality of 88.7% against the 3rd-instar larvae of Mythimna separata, the other compounds have no insecticidal activity.
