Hollow microsphere materials have attracted great attention in recent years because of their extensive applications on catalysis, medicine, thermal insulation and photoelectron field. In the dissertation, zirconia hollow microspheres were prepared by modified PS microsphere template technique. The main content and innovation points are as follows.1. Polystyrene microspheres with 400nm, 200nm and 60nm size were prepared by the soap-free emulsion polymerization method using styrene(St) as monomer and K25208 (KPS) as initiator, respectively and their formation mechanism was discussed.2. The PS microspheres were modified by vinyltriethoxysilane (KH151) to obtain modified PS microspheres, and their structure, morphology, particle size and distribution were characterized by FTIR, NMR, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), laser light scatter technique (LLS). The modification mechanism was investigated.3. The zirconia hollow microspheres were prepared by using m-PSM as template and their structure, morphology, size and distribution were characterized by FTIR, TEM, LLS, TGA and UV-vis absorption spectra, respectively. The results show that the hollow microspheres obtained by solution method is larger in size than that yielded by calcination method because that the shell of microspheres obtained by solution method is consisted of amorphous zirconia hydrate while that yielded by calcination method shows compact tetragonal zirconia crystal structure.
