Engineering ceramics have attractive prospect in some special fields of high temperature, erosive and wearing et al, for its excellent performance of physics and chemistry. Because of its high brittleness and high rigidity, there are many difficulties in machining, which limit its using in engineering. In order to get low surface roughness and high material remove rate, basic research on the optimization of process parameters in creep feed ultrasonic grinding engineering ceramics was conducted. The main research of the paper includes:1) The effect of grinding parameters on surface roughness and material removal rates (MRR) is analyzed by orthogonal test when Al2O3 ceramic is ground. Through the experiment data and micrograph of metallography comparison of the Al2O3 ceramic under different conditions, some laws about the effect of different parameters such as, grinding depth, wheel speed and feed rate on the surface roughness is obtained. The most important conclusion includes: the best matches of grinding parameters are thinner grinding depth, lower feed rate, higher wheel speed and thin-size grains in order to improve surface roughness. And the best matches are thicker grinding depth, higher wheel speed and higher feed rate in order to improve material removal rates.2)Grinding characteristic of complex and creep feed ultrasonic grinding ceramic and NC contour evolution creep feed ultrasonic grinding ceramic is analyzed. The theoretic and experimental basis are obtained to research creep feed ultrasonic grinding.
