In this paper, it studied the start-up of Anaerobic Baffled Reactor(ABR) and the operational performance treating low-strength wastewater at 35℃.The way of operation is that HRT become longer(3h-6h-9h-12h) in ABR,, HRT become shorter(12h-9h-6h-3h) in ABR2. For the low strength wastewater, the start-up,performance and stability,process parameters(HRT,OLR) and granular sludge characteristics were studiedThe result of research shows that the strength of set-up should be low. When treating the low concentration wastewater, HRT should be short. During the start-up period, ABR2, which operated at the condition of CODcr 500mg/L, HRT 12h for 22d performed stable. The concentration of CODcr in effluent is 112mg/L, the removal of COD, viz above 86%.It also showed that ABR has good effection in removing CODcr. And the effluent operation is stable. When the influent CODcr was 500~1000mg/L, and the effluent CODcr was 73~110mg/L, the removal effiency of CODcr is 80%~90%. ABR2 showed more stable operation.It was shown that OLR and HRT were two important process parameters affecting the operating performance of ABR. HRT of the low strength of influent is 6,9,12h,hydraulic strength is low. It is good for microbiology and wastewater to contact. The effluent is low. The change of influent concentration and HRT can alter the OLR.However the effect of decreasing HRT is more sever. It is important to choose suitable HRT and OLR.The anaerobic granular sludge characteristics and components indicate sludge quality. The anaerobic granular sludge characteristics were observed. For low strength wastewater, the anaerobic granular sludge was less in radius and looser compared with high strength wastewater. It is necessary for deep research.
