Ethyl acetate was synthesized by ethanol with acetic acid as raw material in the presence of supported phosohotungstic heteropolyacid catalyst prepared with zeolite as its support. The liquid heteropoly acid cannot be recycled, in this thesis, this kind of supported catalyst using twenty percent of phosohotungstic acid as active-center and zeolite as its support modified by two percent of lanthanum nitrate after calcination at 400℃was prepared. The catalyst behavior in the reaction of the synthesis of ethyl acetate was also evaluated. In addition, the catalyst was characterized by BET,IR,NH3-TPD,XRD and SEM to analyse the surface area, pore structure, acid intensity and crystal structure of the supported phosphotungstic acid catalyst were compared. It was found that , the optimum conditions are that molar ratio of acetic acid to ethanol was 2.5:1 , the reaction temperature was 110℃and the reaction time was 4hs . and the optimum conditions, the yield of ethyl acetate can reach over 91.24%. This catalyst has high supported strength and can be well recycled. The yield of ethyl acetate was still over 82% even after the catalyst was recycled for eight runs with only 25% loss of phosohotungstic acid. The reaction condition is moderation, the operation is easy and the secondary reaction is few. And the catalysts have no corrosion to the equipment and have no pollution to the environment and does not corrose facility. High activity and selectivity were attained. This catalyst certainly is a promising acid catalyst.
