The Researching And Manufacturing SBS Modified Bitumen Using Karamay Viscous Crude Oil

Bitumen from Karamay naphthene-base crude oil has good adhesiveness property,remarkable performance at low and high temperature. Because of low aromatichydrocarbon content, low asphaltene content and low sulphur content, poor solubility,poor compatibility between karamay bitumen and SBS, it is very difficult to takeKaramay bitumen as feedstock to produce SBS modified bitumen. And if regularmodifying way is used on hand. Modifying agent cannot be dispersed into bitumenuniformly and steadily, separation is easily taken place, and the qualified SBSmodified bitumen cannot be produced out. So taking Karamay bitumen as feedstock toproduce SBS modified bitumen became a tickler world widely.In order to improve the quality of road bitumen, satisfy the severe requirement onbituminous pavement, the bitumen manufactured by Karamay Petrochemical Plant istaken as feedstock, the factors which composition of Karamay bitumen, type of SBSmodifying agent and their adding amount, procedure of preparation and the stabilizingagent how to affect the modified bitumen, the problem of poor solubility and poorcompatibility between Karamay bitumen and SBS modifying agent were studied. Theproduct manufactured satisfy with the requirement of SBS modified bitumen instandard of polymer modified bitumen (JTG F40-2004), reach the grade of 76-34according to PG classification in SHRP plan.For further performance verification of SBS modified bitumen, evaluations onthermal stability and on mixture properties were carried out. The results are shown thatthe developed SBS-modified bitumen is excellent in dissolubility and stability, and canbe stored in long term. It is also outstanding in application on road construction, i. e., the modified bitumen owns the characteristic of good high and low temperatureproperties and anti-aging ability and fully meets the requirement of high grade bitumenfor bituminous pavement.The application of SBS modified bitumen manufacturing techniques would be aguide for commercial production and both economic and social, benefits would becreated.
