Recently,synthesis and characterization of one-dimensional(1 D) nanostructures have become the focus of intensive research in crystal growth.In this thesis,two kinds of 1 D nano-materials,i.e.silicon nanowires(SiNWs)and ZnO nanorods,have been synthesized. silicon nanowires(SiNWs)with quantum confinement effects and small size effects are new kinds of optoelectronic materials are compatible with modern silicon technology,they are promising in nanodevices and will dominate in semiconductor industry.Zinc oxide(ZnO)is a novelⅡ-Ⅵcompound semiconductor with a wide direct bandgap(3.37ev),a high excitation binding energy(60mev) and a hexagonalwurtzite structure.ZnO is a unique material that exhibits optoelectronic,piezoelectronic,ferroelectric and ferromagnetic multiple properties。Silicon nanowires were obtained by thermal evaporation method.The obtained SiNWs modified with trifluoroethyl acrylate successfully at room temperature.The morphology of SiNWs was characterized with the scanning electron microscope(SEM),transmission electron microscope (TEM)and high resolution TEM(HRTEM).The modification process was observed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis. Experimental results show that these SiNWs are single crystals and the mechanism was proposed to explain the modification of organic functional group on the SiNWs.The XPS results confirm SiNWs were successfully modified with the organic functional group.The silicon nanowires(SiNWs)were synthesized and modified with mercurous chloride at room temperature.XRD patterns and SEM image confirm the modification results.The modified SiNWs film was used to fabricate electrode the sensing property for chlorine ion was studied with electrochemical instrument.The results show the conductance of SiNWs is relative to the concentration of chlorine ion.ZnO nanorods were fabricated by a low temperature hydrothermal method without no catalyst or surfactant.The product is made from metallic zinc film with unique morphology.The relationship between reacting time and formation of zinc oxide is studied in and a possible mechanism is proposed as well.The photoluminescence property of the products is also studied in this work.
