The structural optimization of a new typical rod pump named hydraulicand self-sealing plunger pump is proceeded in the paper, and the model ofnewpumpisappliedinthefield.Firstly, the structural features and operational principle of hydraulic andself-sealingplunger pump are analyzed.WithANSYS finite element analysissoftware, a geometric model of plunger for the following finite elementanalysis and structural optimization is established. Secondly, optimizematerial of sealing ring by attrition test. The results of test manifest thatenhanced nylon with graphite additive is fit for needs of plunger pump. Anempirical relationship for applied load with linear rate of wear of enhancednylon with graphite additive is obtained. The equation for the life of plungerpump is derived. Then according to the geometric constraint condition ofpump interspaces and object function of life, multifactor orthogonal digitaltest for structural parameters is made, multidisciplinary analysis for affectingfactor of life is done by finite element, which indicates that wall thickness ofsealingringismosteffective,elasticcasetakesecondplace,andthelengthofpump does little. Finally, fifty percents of pump life are prolonged underoptimumstructuralparameters. Lastly, In house and field tests manifest that hydraulic and self-sealingplunger pump overcomes available failure of conventional pump, such as bigfriction, short life and so on, and realizes the goal of free friction indownstroke, full returns in upstroke and long life. Simultaneously, the pumpdeclines energy consumption and enhances pump efficiency, which is fit fortheneedsofnationalstrategy.
