Reactive Sorption Enhanced Reforming (RSER) is a new hydrogen producing process based on using reactive sorbent to capture CO2 released from the steam methane reforming reaction. The equilibrium of the reaction of steam methane reforming has been broken and the reaction temperature and the energy consumption have been reduced. The process has a significant meaning of energy saving for the chemical engineering, refinery, and the energy industries.Three kinds of reactive sorption catalysts were prepared by mixing, impregnation and atomization method respectively. Then, evaluated by experimental scale fixed bed reaction and the fixed fluid bed reactor for the RSER process for hydrogen production. With the catalyst prepared by mixing impregnation method, the hydrogen produced is 95.66% (v/v) and the methane conversion is 90.80% under the operation conditions of reaction temperature 600℃, atmospheric pressure, steam carbon mole ratio 4. Under the same operation conditions, the catalyst prepared by impregnation method system, the hydrogen is 97.60% produced by RSER process with the methane conversion 90.91%.In addition, the catalysts prepared by atomization method were used in RSER process for hydrogen production in a fixed fluidized bed (FFB). Under the operation conditions of reaction temperature 600℃, atmospheric pressure, steam carbon mole ratio 4,. The maximum hydrogen concentration is 95.52%. The results showed that with reactive sorption catalysts, whatever fixed bed or the fixed fluid bed reactor, the concentration of hydrogen over 95% can be obtained by experiments.The mechanism and the kinetics studies of the reactive sorption catalyst prepared by mixing method for RSER process have been detailed studied. Based on the characteristics of RSER with lower content of CO. A new mechanism has been proposed, and kinetics equations has been established as the following::Where E is 197.2 kJ/mol,The verification of the establishment equation has been caculated by comparing the experimental data and calculated data of the methane conversion. The results showed that the mean relative deviation is lower than 4.41%. The kinetic equation is credible.A brief research has been concerned for the study of the anti-sulfur properties of RSER process with reactive sorption catalyst using the methane contains 200ppm hydrogen sulfide. Catalyst activeness keep activities during reactive sorption refoming reaction and showed a strong anti-sulfur ability. On the hand, while using the commercial reforming catalyst for feed methane contain 200ppm H2S. It showed that catalyst is very easy to be poisoned.
