At present, it has been an important object to obtain new polymer material with excellent properties by means of modification of existing polymer materials. As the sixth high performance plastics, polyarylene sulfide(PAS) used in auto, electronics industry and military field due to its good combination of properties such as high thermal stability and electrical insulating ability, corrosion resistance and self excellent flame retardance. But pure PAS has a deadly shortcoming of low impact strength, which limits its further use.In order to get the excellent thermal property, chemical resistance and soluble polymer, the copolymer of poly(arylene sulfide ketone/arylene sulfide amide)(PASK/A) had been polymerized. A novel method was used to synthesize the PASK/A copolymer at normal pressure and high molecular weight PASK/A was obtained. The reaction conditions such as modes of adding monomer, monomer rations, reaction temperature and time have obviously effects on molecular weight of the copolymer. The copolymer's chain and aggregative structures were characterized by FT-IR spectrum, UV spectrum, 1H-NMR spectrum and X-ray diffraction respectively. The results showed the obtained copolymer was crystalline. Thermal property analysis showed that the more ketone in the copolymer chain, the better thermal properties of the PASK/A resins have. By optimizing the PASK/A synthetic conditions, high molecular weight PASK/A with viscosity of 0.2151dl/g was obtained. The experiment can be repeated well. The PASK/A with the excellent thermal properties were synthesized and the dissolution of PASK/A was improved.
