The form of manganese in Chongqing manganese ore is mainly rhodochrosite, which contains 8.08%~27.96% of manganese and 0.107%~0.366% of phosphor. The content of manganese in rhodochrosite tailings (rhodochrosite tailing contains manganese gangue and manganese residue) is very low, even lower than 1% in manganese gangue. Most of them are discarded in tailings piles. These tailings occupy the ground and seriously affect the further exploitation. Besides, it will cause a series of environmental problems and even dangers. It is very significant in protecting environment and saving resources to know how to comprehensively utilize the lean, inferior and scrap manganese resources.Using manganese carbonate tailings (manganese gangue and manganese residue) as main material, the effects of Mn in manganese tailings on growth, grain yield and manganese nutrition of wheat, pepper and radish have been studied by the methods of pot experiments. The results are showed that Mn in gangue lixivium has little effect on waters, and the manganese gangue is suitable for fillings in vacuous area of mining. The anganese residue is suitable for recovering its effective components or making microelement fertilizer. As the manganese tailings are added in soils the chlorophyll contents of the crops are increased, and economic characteristics improved. The manganese contents in seeds and stem leaf of wheat are respectively increased by 37.5%~55.8% and 12.6%~25.7%, in fruit and stem eaf of pepper by 11.7%~23.4% and 33.9%~62.8%, and in seeds, stem leaf and root of radish by 20.0%~35.5%, 19.0%~29.2% and 13.5%~28.5%. The effect of manganese on yield increase of wheat is better than of pepper and radish. Therefore, the above results provide the theory basis that manganese tainings could be comprehensively utilized as trace element fertilizer.
