With the development of aviation, motor-dom, shipping and manufacturing industries such as moulding technology, free-form curved surface parts have become significantly more important in modern industries. More human and material resources are invested in the manufacturing industries to research into effective NC profile technology, among which profile modeling machining to free-form curved surface by using point data has been the primary focus of the present research.The paper analysed the developmental process in NC profile modeling machining technology. Based on the present situation, it also illustrated the importance of direct NC profile modeling machining algorithms grounded on the point data. Such a set of new system was developed on the basis of a traditional NC milling machine, and its feasibility can be verified by trial and error. Researches on the algorithms based on point data were further investigated. A final conclusion was drawn to summarize the research of this project. The paper also looked forward to the prospective of further studies.The research mainly includes the following aspects:1. Based on the requirements of the project and the practical characteristics of the workpieces, an integrated NC profile modeling machining system was designed.2. By imitating the process of NC profile modeling, the project aimed at setting up experimental measuring systems, analyzing the experimental objects, establishing corresponding measuring locus, choosing appropriate plans for measuring norm and thus arriving at the final surface measuring statistics.Firstly, by using the algorithms of burr disposal to remove sketchy error, the research analysed the applicable scope of the commonly-used smooth filter, Gauss filter and median filter. According to the characteristics of point data obtained by non-contact measure, round curvature method was selected to deal with smooth treatment. Secondly, after analyzing the surface features of the processed workpieces, a sidestep treatment was adopted in agreement with this project.Lastly, in comparison to the previous compressed-data algorithms, a new compressed treatment algorithms was introduced, which is aiming at lots of redundant statistics by laser measurement. The interval of statistics was realized under the guarantee of characteristics points.3. According to large amounts of point data by non-contact laser measure, the paper discussed methods of pretreatment to point data.4. The installment of information measurement database perfected the management of the whole measuring system.
