Aluminum titanate is a new ceramic material with high melting point and low thermal expansion coefficient.But the material has two fatal defects:one was that the crystal has very big anisotropy which made its mechanical strength very low because there was much crack in the material when cooling;another was that it was very easy to decompose into rutile and corundum between 750-1300℃,which made it lose the excellent properties.So its application was very restricted.The paper studied the effect of sintering temperature and powder size on the properties of aluminum titanate.The results show that the decrease of sintering temperature and powder size can produce less microcrackes and increase the strength and thermal expand coefficient of aluminum titanate;and under suitable sintering temperature and appropriate powder size,the bending strength and fired density of aluminum titanate was enhanced and its thermal expand coefficient was very low. Bring forward a high quality,high produce rate and feasible technical way of synthesizing aluminum titanate.The paper studied the effect of additive on stability of aluminum titanate and strength.The result shows that moderate fused magnesite powder,SiO2 powder and ZrO2 can enhance the stability and strength,to different extent. The paper discussed the effect of aluminum titanate formed by in-situ reaction of TiO2 with Al2O3 in the matrix on properties of corundum refractories.The results indicate that the formation of aluminum titanate can improve the thermal shock resistance and the hot strength of corundum refractories remarkably,and that it is possible to produce corundum refractories with super properties.The paper discussed the effect of aluminum-titanate formed by the introduction of TiO2 in the matrix of mullite material.The results indicate that aluminum-titanate can improve the thermal shock resistence remarkly,and that the introduction of suitable quantity TiO2 can increase the softening point under load to a degree.The results provide the foundation for developing mullite-aluminum titanate diphase products with super properties.Aluminum titanate is added into MgAlON as scattered phase.And the effect of capability with composing and quantum of it has been added is studied.The result indicate that aluminum titanate can improve the hot strength and the shock resistance of MgAlON compound meterial content among mass 5%-mass 15%reasonably.
