Cutting is an important process in the modern manufacturing, especially in the automobile and marine industries. Traditional robot teaching method can't meet the requirement in complicated works. While off-line programming technology gives solution to this problem. And it's convenient for the combination of CAD/CAM, and helps the integration of CAD, CAM and robot. This paper first introduced the off-line programming technology and the system of it. Then the paper discussed the status and trend of programming technology. The main body of the paper lies on the off-line programming solution to steel and L-construct steel plasma cutting used in marine industry. The first step is to find the cutting information in the original CAD image and to arrange these information for the smooth cutting. Though calibration, we get the coordination of the robot system. Then I used scanning-line method in the motion planning. Also I stimulate the cutting process with OPENGL and experiment in MOTOMAN UP6. And it proved that the off-line programming solution is applicable and has significance in digital shipbuilding.
