1-3 piezoelectric fibers composites (PFC) combine high piezoelectric properties of piezoelectric ceramic and flexibility of polymer, so they have more widely applications than ceramic. Whereas there were many problems in extruding method of powder and organic binder, the PZT piezoelectric fibers were fabricated by extruding powder and sol. Then fibers were put into epoxy resin to 1-3 piezoelectric composites. PZT fibers and 1-3 composites were studied on several factors. It were found that When acetic acid and water in sol were both 15%, the ratio of sol and powder was 1:7, and sintering temperature was 1240℃, the shrinkage ratio and density of fiber were highest, and dielectric and piezoelectric properties were best. The PZT ceramic was fabricated from the synthetic PZT powders. It was concluded that Kt/Kp of PZT ceramic was less than 1, and whichΔf±1/2 was very little in thickness. It concluded that it was good for making into broadband transducer to 1-3 piezoelectric composite because its pure vibrate and big frequency band. It could meet broadband and narrow impulse transducer because of its small Qm in thickness, which increased distinguishability and improved response time of transducer. The effects on dielectric constantεT and piezoelectric constant d33 of 1 -3 piezoelectric composite were studied with different ceramic volume fractionφ.εT and d33 were increasing with increasingφwhenφwas less than 35%.AFC was fabricated, and which sensing and driving properties were measured. It was found that AFC has orthotropic property as sensor and actuator. When the distance between two electrodes of sensor was increased, the orthotropic property of sensing was enhanced under the same polarizing voltage.
