Comparing with other methods for preparing nanofibers, electrospinning technology is easily operated, and is considered to be a cheap and effective method. In the electrospinning process, the polymer droplet is charged by application of an electric field. When the mutual charge repulsion on the drop surface overcomes the surface tension, the charged polymer jet is ejected and collected as fibers on a grounded collector screen. The setup for electrospinning is made up of four parts, including needle, collector, system of supplying solution and high voltage transformer. Several potential applications for nanofibers have been suggested, such as filtration, cosmetic, clothing, sensor and artificial tissue.In our article, the luminescent ZnS:Mn/PVP and ZnS/PPV composite nanofibers are prepared by the electrospinning technique. The properties of the composite nanofibers are also studied. As for the annealed ZnS:Mn/PVP fibers, the separating level among fibers and the crystalline level of the particles are increased. The emitting peak is at 599nm, which is blue-shifted comparing to the unannealed ones. The distributing level of nanoparticles in the annealed fibers are well-distributed.The luminescent ZnS/PPV composite nanofibers are smooth and uniform. The average size of the nanofibers is 500 nm. Comparing with the pure PPV nanofibers, the PL peak of the ZnS/PPV composite nanofibers is bule shift.The process of producing ZnS:Mn/PVP and ZnS/PPV nanofibers is simple and cheap by the electrospinning technique, and ZnS:Mn/PVP and ZnS/PPV nanofibers are better photoluminescent materials. These materials act as one-dimensional optoelectronic nano-materials have potential application in the light-emitting field.
