The research object of this paper is fast-growing poplar, main element forms including poplar board,poplar veneer and poplar plywood. With the protection of vapor, the effects of carbonized treatment parameters on the properties of wood color,wettability,dynamic mechanical property and comparative studies between carbonized and untreated are studied in this paper.Wood color in different carbonized temperatures and time showed that dominant wavelength of poplar increased while temperatures or time increased, color turned dark brown from yellow.The dominant wavelength is from 565 to 640nm.Comparing untreated poplar board with the surface treated, the test result is: the color of soakage treatment was darker than the sanding,both of them are darker than the untreatment.Dominant wavelength in different elements showed: the dominant wavelength of board was higher than veneer and plywood;Comparing the treated poplar with the untreated, the result is: color of the treatment becomes darker regularly than that of untreatment.The research on wettability of carbonized poplar showed that: the contact angles of carbonized poplar board are from 42°to 86°,the thickness swelling of carbonized poplar veneer and poplar plywood are from 0.35% to 1.1%,2.5% to 9%,and reduced with treatment time and temperature.Comparing the untreated, carbonized materials have a better dimension stability.The DMA research showed: during the temperatures from 20 to 300℃, the storage modulus of carbonized board reduced with carbonized times and temperatures, loss factors increased with environment temperatures.But the changing rules of the glass transition tempertures and loss factors of carbonized poplar plywood are not very resemble.Tensile strength and bonding strength of carbonized materials are decreased while carbonized temperatures and times increased, and lower than untreated materials.While bonded with PF, the best carbonized time is 3h,carbonized temperature is lower than 200℃.
