Eu2+, Dy3+co-doped alkaline earth aluminate SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ and Sr4Al14O25: Eu2+, Dy3+are regarded as useful phosphors that have very high brightness, long persistent phosphorescence and good chemical stability.Sr4Al14O25: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor powders were produced by co-precipitation, which in 1.0wt% PEG (based on the weight of dry powers) was added as a dispersant. The effect of calcining temperature, reactive temperature and H3BO3 on the properties of Sr4Al14O25: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor were investigated. Luminescence intensity of Sr4Al14O25: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor was enhanced and a single phase of the phosphor was induced by adding of H3BO3. The water-proofness of the phosphor and the effect of temperatures on luminescent intensity of the phosphor powders were also studied. Sr4Al14O25: Eu , Dy phosphor powders has good water-proofness, and the rate of releasing energy of the powders can be slowed down under lower temperature, vice versa.3 types of oil-based luminescent coatings were prepared by applying SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ and Sr4Al14O25: Eu2+, Dy3+ into nitryl/alkyd varnish, nitryl white coating and nitryl varnish with nitryl green coating, with the aid of dispersants and defoaming agent. The optical properties of the luminescent coatings and the powders indicated that both nitryl white coating and varnish are suitable for preparing high luminescent intensity coatings and nitryl varnish and nitryl white coating didnot change luminescent property of the powders. The effects of coatings thickness and environmental temperatures on the optical properties of the coatings were obvious. The thickness of luminescent coatings should be not too thick and the rule of releasing energy of luminescence materials was same as the powders.
