Over the past years, the proportion of discharge amount of wastewater from meat product companies in discharge amount of industrial wastewater is becoming larger and larger. The wastewater contains a great deal of organic pollutant, does heavy harm to environment and requires immediate treatment. In the article, the main object of study is medium-high strength meat-producing wastewater. By theory analysis and investigation and study, the external circular anaerobic and oxidation bio-contactor process is chosen to treat the wastewater. The paper analyses deeply a vast amount of data derived from a wastewater treatment plant which is used to treat medium-high strength meat-producing wastewater, the study includes the design, build and operation of the plant.The paper generalizes the sources, characteristics of meat-producing wastewater and present research situation in treating such kind wastewater and introduces the design of the wastewater plant in Harbin Popular Meat Product Company. The paper discusses the principle, the development of anaerobic technology and introduces the study of improvement in exterior circulation anaerobic process. Based on the practical operation, design parameters of anaerobic-aerobic process are deeply discussed and disposal efficiency, influential factors, operation and control of each unit are studied systematically in order to provide useful references for the treatment of similar kind wastewater.The main conclusions: Practical operation demonstrates treatment of meat-producing wastewater with high level of organic compounds by combined process of anaerobic-aerobic process is reliable technologically and reasonable economically. The process has advantages as steady operation, high-level inflexibility and small-land use. Under the condition influent COD 2500mg/L, residual COD is less than 80mg/L and total COD removal efficiency comes to 97%. Insoluble solids and big organics can be transformed into soluble and small organics in external circular anaerobic reactor, COD removal rate are up to 75%. Steady work, good effluent index and easy operation, COD removal rate are up to 80% in Oxidation bio-contactor.
