The biodegradable materials have good biological compatibility and biological security, they can meet many kinds of biodegradable functions needs. My school's research on the silk fibroin(SF) had already obtained a certain result and the application. In this paper, we prepared PEG/PLA filaments and SF/PLA nanofibers with wet spinning and electrospinning.PEG is a water soluable polymer, whose degradation product is non-toxical. PEG is the only one which could be used in food and medicine is recognized by American FDA. B. mori silk has been used for medical suture for a long time, which is easily processed to be pure silk fibroin. SF has distinctive biological properties including good biocompatibility, blood compatibility, good oxygen and water permeability, biodegradability, non-cytotoxicity and minimal inflammatory reaction which is a valuable candidate materials for biomecial applications. And the third material we used is PLA which is also biodegradable, non-cytotoxicity.Electrospinning is the most basic technique for the production of nanoscale fibers. It could produce polymer nanofibers directly and continuously. Under high voltage and static electric field, a charged jet is created from a polymer melt or solution, then the solvent evaporates and nanofibers solidify. The nanofibers are deposited randomly on the surface of the collection plate in the form of non-woven nanofiber membranes. Because nanofibers have several useful properties including small diameter,high surface area to volume ratio and high porosity, they can be used in tissue engineering and biomedical engineering extensively.The PEG/PLA(2/98) blend filaments were spun by wet spinning and the SF/PLA(20/80) blend nanofibers membrane was spun by Electrospinning.The study of the PEG/PLA filaments and SF/PLA nanofibers membrane indicated that, mechanical properties of PEG/PLA blend fibers could not meet the biodegradable medical suture line mechanics performance requirements. Electrospinning could successfully prepared SF /PLA blend fibers membrane. SEM, FTIR, X-ray diffraction and TG-DTG were used to characterized the structure and performance of SF/PLA blend fibers membrane.
