In order to make high utilization of the active compound in Casuarina equisetifolia residues, the paper investigated its extract, its metal ions' adsorption properties, scale inhibiting properties and elimination function of scavenging radical effects. The results showed that values of colloidal titration of the extracts were related linearly with tannin contents at pH 7. Colloidal titration was a quick method usd to Casuarina equisetifolia residues. Different regional tannin contents vary and the tannin in the bark increased with increase of tree ages. GPC-laser light scattering was used to measure the molecular weight distribution, the result disclosed that the composition of Casuarina equisetifolia extract has great effect on yields and constituents of Casuarina equisetifolia extract. The in-situ immobilized Casuarina equisetifolia bark was obtained through cross-linking reaction of aldehyde. The adsorption properties of in-situ immobilized Casuarina equisetifolia bark were researched. The results were that the adsobent has good adsorption capacity to Cr(VI) and Fe(III).It is expected to be used as high capacity and low cost metalion adsorbent. The extract treated by sulfonation or oxidation have certain scattering and scale inhibiting properties to CaCO3. The scavenging·OH free radical effects of active compound in Casuarina equisetifolia bark was researched, and it has comparatively large inhibiting capacity to light-induced yellowing properties of mechanical pulp bleached.
