Ni-mSA/mCS bipolar membrane(BPM)was prepared by sodium alginate(SA)and chitosan (CS),which were modified by Ca2+ and glutaraldehyde(GA) as linking reagents, respectively. FTIR,SEM,TG,mechanism performance, swelling degree, moisture content, ion exchange capacity, viscosity were investigated.Ni-mSA/mCS BPM was used as a separator in the electrolysis cell to produce FeO42-.The optimum condition of electro-generated ferrate is J=20 mA·cm-2 and T=50℃.The experiment results showed that H2O in the interface of Ni-mSA/mCS BPM can split to H+ and OH-.BPM is available in preventing FeO42- transporting to cathode chamber and supplementing OH- in anode chamber in time from cathode chamber.Ni-mSA/mCS BPM was used as a separator in the electrolysis cell to produce thioglycolic acid(TGA).The experiment results showed that TGA was prepared effectively by electro-reduction of DTDGA with the mixture of TGA and DTDGA as cathode electrolyte, 25%H2SO4 as anode electrolyte, nickel net as cathode,Pb as anode. The current efficiency was up to 66.7%at the room temperature during the current density Was 10 mA·cm-2 and the working voltage was below 3.0 V during electrolysis process.Compared with the traditional metal reduction method, the electro-reduction technology saves the zinc powder and eliminates the pollution to environment.Ni-mSA/mCS BPM was prepared and used as a separator in the electrolysis cell to produce glyoxylic acid in pairs. The experiment results showed that PbO2 was used as anode, the mixture of saturation oxalic acid and 0.1 mol·L-1 HCl was used as cathode electrolyte, the mixture of 10%glyoxal and 10%KBr was used as anode electrolyte, the current efficiency was up to 82.9% in the cathodic room and 75.7%in the anodic room respectively at the room temperature during the current density was 20 mA·cm-2.The electrolysis voltage was as low as 2.7 V.H+ generated by BPM moves into the cathodic chamber in time from mSA to supplement H+ consumed by electro-reducation of oxalic acid for generating glyoxylic acid;OH- moves into the anodic chamber in time from mCS to combine with H+ produced by electro-oxygenation of glyoxal for generating glyoxylic acid and impel the reaction go along.
