Free-radical polymerization of styrene was carried out in the presence of a series of peroxide initiators. The objective of this paper was to investigate the chemical structure of styrene oligomer and measure its concentration. The results were compared by using 1, 1-Di(tert-butylperoxy) cyclohexane (Trigonox 22-E50), 1, 1-Di(tert-butylperoxy)-3, 3 , 5-trimethylcyclohexane (Trigonox 29-C50), 2, 2-Di(4, 4-di(tert-butylperoxy) cyclohexyl) propane (Perkadox 12-AE20)as initiators at same equivalent molar concentrations, temperatures and time in the polymerization of styrene.Viscosimetry, GC and GPC have been used to measure viscometric average molecular weight and oligomer concentration. With the viscosimetry and GPC analysis, we can easily conclude that the capacities of creating high molecular substances for different initiators are obviously different. According to the result of GC, it can also conclude that the conversion rates are also different with different type of initiators.Initiator is one of the most important reagents in the polymerization of olefin and it closely related to the polymerization rate. It also directly affect the time of polymerization and heat transfer during polymerization. Organic initiators are including organic peroxide and azo compound. This article introduces several ways of analyzing the content of initiators. These methods are quite easy, with a little time, high accuracy and precision.Molecular and particle size of Fe(NH4)[Fe(CN)6],PbCrO4 and PbMoO4/ PbCrO4 which were synthesized in the water based polymers were tested with GPC and granularity analysis.
