This paper was based on the start-up experiment of Sudan crude oil under constant flow rate. The flow characteristics and start-up properties of waxy crude oil were studied by using different oils: one sample was Sudan crude oil and the other was Sudan crude oil added with 10% heavy oil. The BP neural networks algorithm was applied to the experimental data to predict the start-up yield stress of waxy crude oil.1. Some technical improvements of our Experimental Loop are made to advance the pipeline restart research. The automatic operation of the surge tank was realized to improve the security and accuracy of our device.2. A supersonic wave sensor was used to monitor the movement of the floater to study the restart flow rate during the pressure-controlled start-up test.3. The gel points of both the GNPOC oil and GNPOC+WNPOC oil would not be decreased greatly after using the KSCC-10-18 pour inhibitor, and the effect of the pour inhibitor was also decreased due to the continuous shear during the dynamic cool down process. Nevertheless, by using the KSCC-10-18 pour inhibitor, the restart characteristics of these oils were improved a lot.4. Sudan crude oil was quite sensitive to the thermal treatment conditions. The start-up yield stress of GNPOC oil under thermal treatment of 65℃was lower than that under 90℃.5. The start-up yield stress of GNPOC oil added with 10% WNPOC heavy oil under thermal treatment of 65℃was higher than that under 92℃.6. The BP neural networks algorithm was applied to the experimental data, and an improved prediction on the start-up yield stress of waxy crude oil was obtained.
