The water quality has aging tendency with the time prolonging, the aged waste leachate cannot be discharged directly because it contains ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) of high concentration. It will effect the growth of the microbe badly if the leachate is treated directly by routine biological treatment and then increase the difficulty of treatment. At present, the technologies to remove ammonia nitrogen have some shortcomings such as complex process, operational difficulties and large medicine addition. Based on the research findings of, the paper takes aged leachate from certain refuse landfill plant in Chongqing as investigated subject, uses ultrasonic wave (US) and aged refuse column to remove the ammonia nitrogen, and determines the removal effect and technological parameters.In the paper, ultraviolet(UV) independently, ultrasonic wave(US) independently are used to treat leachate, the best wave length of UV is 254nm and the best power of US is 100W.For reaching better removal rate, UV-US, US-aeration and UV-US-aeration are used to treat leachate on the best wavelength and power. The results are UV independently or US independently gets better ammonia nitrogen removal rate than UV-US; there is good removal rate of ammonia nitrogen by US-aeration. Removing the ammonia nitrogen in leachate by UV-aeration is effected obviously by aeration amount, when the aeration amount are 50L/h,100L/h and 150L/h, after 6 hours'operation, the removal rate are 60.25%,83.97% and 92.85% separately. Apparently; when ultraviolet is added in US-aeration, on each aeration amount, the removal of ammonia nitrogen is higher than it is not added, the best ammonia nitrogen removal result is 98.54%, it is reached when the UV length is 254nm, the US power is 100W and the aeration amount is 150L/h.For the further treatment of leachate, the yielding water of US enters into the aged refuse column as the entering water. The removal of ammonia nitrogen is about 60% stably. In the process, the nitrification is on dominance and the concentrations of nitration and nitrite in entering water are obviously higher than those in yielding water. The aged refuse column has good effect on ammonia nitrogen removal and strong nitrification.Ammonia nitrogen in the aged leachate can get effective removal using ultrasound/aged refuse column. It will have more extensive development space.
