Shipyards needed a large number of shipbuilding steel, various alloys and other material, and had a special request for the characteristics of materials, so the detailed analysis of materials was necessary. In this thesis, the flame atomic absorption spectrometry in the principle of atomic absorption method was used, and the content of the element in steel materials for ships, such as white metal, cupronickel and aluminous alloy, was determined. The security and reliability of ship equipment and components work were evaluated to ensure that it works effective.Optimum parameters and feasible analysis method had been given through experiments and theory analysis. According to the material detection of PC1100 series product oil tanker, T3000 series oil tanker and C4250 series container ship, it was proved that the period of the detection had been decreased and the quality of product has been improved. This analysis method had the advantage of high speed, little disturbance, high sensibility and good precision. And the error accorded with the request of national standards. Therefore, it could be completely applied to shipyard's need.
