Propanal and butyraldehyde are important organic chemical raw materials. They can be used for plastic, rubber processing assistant, medicine raw materials, fuel additives, polymer chain transfering agents and stabilizing agent of emulsion. Oxo (Oxonation) synthesis is the main production method of aldehyde, and it's a type of atomic economy reaction with wide industrial application. The production capacity of propanal and butyraldehyde can not meet domestic demand at present, especially the production of propanal. Thus the research topic of Oxo synthesis of aldehyde has great applied value.Oxo synthesis of butyraldehyde is an important unit in the production of butanol and octanol. DAVY and DOW developed the second generation of Oxo synthesis technology which is liquid recycle process. Now, this mature technology has been used in many domestic plant.Firstly, this paper has a sufficient research on Oxo synthesis of butyraldehyde with liquid recycle technology. The model of the flow sheet unit was set up using commercialized chemical simulation software. On the basis of kinetics equation from literature, the process simulation is completed for the Oxo synthesis of butyraldehyde with liquid recycle technology. Through comparition between simulation results and industrial value, the accuracy and reliability of simulation calculation are verified.As same that, the process for Oxo synthesis of propanal with gas recycle was simulated by using the modified kinetics from literature. Through comparition the simulation results to industrial value, accuracy and reliability of the modified kinetics are verified.Though the production conditions of propanal and butyraldehyde are different, the production process of them has a lot similitude. On the research results which have been achieved , referring to liquid recycle process of butyraldehyde production and using the kinetic equations verified in simulation for gas recycle process of propanal production, the process simulation of propanal production with liquid recycle technology is completed. At the objective function of conversion and selectivity of reaction, serial CSTRs is simulated. Comparing the simulation results, it's found that two CSTRs technology is the most reasonable. The optimum technology conditions are gotten by simulation of changing the value of some variable such as temperature, pressure, residence time. The optimum value can be used in process development and device design. The gas recycle technology and liquid recycle technology of propanal production are contrast to each other according to operational data, and liquid recycle process of propanal production is found to have many advantages, such as higher production capacity and lower consumption. The research results can provide basis for developing new process and optimizing operation conditions.
