Nowadays the petroleum nonrenewable resources are main raw material of most synthetic macromolecular materials, causing the serious shortage of the petroleum resources, and tremendous damage to the bioenvironment due to the difficulty for degradation of the waste synthetic materials.Besides, the abundance of soybean resources and its cheap price make the cost of the synthetic oil-based polymer product economically beneficial. This paper deals with the synthesis of alkene polymer by using soybean oil as main raw materials, through a series of chemical reactions.Comparing with the traditional petroleum-based macromolecular products, this polymer is biodegradable, and the resulted small molecule could participate in the biological metabolism circulation and be assimilated absorption, which could overwhelming the environment pollution problem caused by the non-biodegradability of traditional oil-based synthetic polymers. Therefore, this study is very significant for utilizing resources and exploiting new macromolecular materials. This paper discusses the preparation of long chain alky acrylate by using soybean oil as raw material through alcoholization, epoxydation, acrylic esterification. This long chain alky acrylate was then used to prepare its styrene copolymers. The influences of reaction temperature, time, the material dosage on alcoholization and epoxydation reaction were discussed. The structures of the reaction products were characterized by IR spectroscopy. The optimum reaction conditions of alcoholization was as follows:the reaction time one hour, the reaction temperature 60℃,the alcohol-oil ratio 6:1 and the amount of catalyst 1.0 percent. When the reaction temperature was 65℃and the amount of hydrogen peroxide-formic acid ratio was 1:0.3(to the quality of the product of esterification),the reaction reached the high epoxy value of the product. The system was prone to synthesize the reaction process of acrylic acid esterification, which finally could be found out to be 90-96℃and the amount of the catalyst was 1.5 percent. When the amount of styrene was 33 percent and the amount of maleic anhydride was 60 percent, the degree of polymerization was high. The existing synthetical technologies are mainly based on the soybean oil epoxidation, polymerizing with comonomer to produce copolymer in the domestic and international. Because the branched chain of soybean oil is very large, easy to have the steric hindrance, causing the certain difficulty for the polymerization reaction. This experiment base on the molecular structure of soybean oil and through analysisof designing the transesterification reaction of soybean oil of methanol, breaking the molecular chains of soybean oil, forming long chain alkenes, gaining the acrylic monomer long chain alkene after epoxidation and acrylic acid esterification, and resulting the formation of crosslinked polymers.
