In this research, we used the double-drop method to synthesize Mg/Al layered double hydroxide (LDH), and several nanocomposites were prepared in different ways. The successful preparation of LDH was confirmed by XRD. The results of mechanical properties showed that there was not evident reinforcement when LDH added in SBR, NBR, NR polymer. The mechanical properties of EPDM/PP/LDH composites showed they had a great reinforcing effect compared with pure EPDM/PP material; the tensile strength and tearing strength of the composites prepared by No.I-3 LDH with the addition of 1.0 phr were increased approximately 103%, 77% compared with that of pure EPDM/PP, respectively. By the use of TEM observation, the LDH layers were successfully intercalated in the PA6 matrix; it meant the intercalation type PA6/LDH nanocomposites were prepared. The measurements of mechanical properties showed the yield strength and tensile modulus of the two PA6/LDH nanocomposites were dramatically improved, but impact strength almost kept unchangeble The tensile modulus of the nanocomposites prepared by No. I-4 LDH was improved approximately 26.8% compared to that of pure PA6. The results of DSC and TGA test showed the crystallizability and the thermal stability of nanocomposites were slightly decreased in the presence of LDH. The whole results showed the polymer/LDH composites will have wonderful application prospect.
