A series of heteroleptic cyclometalate Ir complexes with acylamide derivants as ancillary ligands (ppy)2Ir(LX) (ppy=2-phenylpyridine, LX=acetylaniline 2, p-bromo-acetylaniline 3, N-Phenylbenzamide 4, N-naphthylbenzamide 5) have been successfully synthesized. The synthetic procedures are as follows: 1) Synthesizing 2-phenylpyridine with phenylboronic acid and 2-choloropyridine as starting reagents by suzuki coupling reaction, the resulted 2-phenylpyridine was stirred with iridium trichloride in 2-methoxyethanol at refluxed temperature to produce the dicholoro-2-phenylpyridine complex. 2) Synthesizing amide derivants with the corresponding amine. 3) Stirred the dicholoro-2-phenylpyridine complex and amide derivants at room temperature in the presence of alkali in dichloromethane to give birth to the aimed complexes, these are (ppy)2Ir(acetylaniline) 2 , (ppy)2Ir(p-bromo- acetylaniline) 3,(ppy)2Ir(N-Phenylbenzamide) 4,(ppy)2Ir(N-naphthylbenzamide) 5. All of the structures of complexes were characterized by HNMR, x-ray single crystal diffusion and element analysis. All the complexes give rise to resemble absorptions at around 250 nm, and their solution emissions are all fell into the green light region but differ in the max emission wavelength from 510nm to 540nm, which prove all the complexes are green phosphorescence complexes. The OLED fabrication of complex 2 was prepared by sequently high-vacuum (10-6Toor) thermal evaporation of 2, TPD and Al on a ITO glass. When a voltage of 6V was applied, the OLED emited orange light. It indicates the potential application of synthesized complexes in OLED.
