In this paper, we take Q195 steel and pure copper as the raw material. We product the copper clad steel wires through drawing the Q195 steel rod with copper tube outside it. After annealing, the copper clad steel wires are bundled together, inserted into a copper tube and deformed through some drawing passes until all the wires and copper tube change into a whole body (we call it Cu/Steel composite body). Then, by different intermediate heat treatments and heavy cold drawing, the steel fiber reinforced copper based composite wire is manufactured (we call it Cu/Steel composite wire), and the volume percentage of copper is 57%.In the Cu/Steel interface, the line scanning energy analysis reveals that there exists diffraction and no gap or hole is found there, which shows that the interface is in good bonding. The steel core wire changes into thin continuous steel fiber in the Cu/Steel composite wire after heavy deformation. By the optical microscope and SEM, we observe the cross sectional and longitudinal sectional morphology under different strains and intermediate heat treatment. We find that as the strain grows, the steel fibers disperse homogeneously in the matrix; their cross sections are in irregularly shape. After different intermediate heat treatment the morphology of steel fiber is different, and the difference exists even after the drawing deformation. In the longitudinal section, the crystal grain was elongated along the drawing direction, and the constituent phases of the steel fiber deform into short fibers along the drawing direction. We test the tensile strength of the Cu/Steel composite wire, as the stain grows, the strength raises. The testing value is higher than that calculated value according to the rule of composite, and grows with the strain in a high speed rate. With different intermediate heat treatment, we get different combination of strength and conductivity: 1080MPa and 39.6%IACS after normalizing at 860℃; 1256MPa and 43.6% IACS after quenching at 800℃; 1320MPa and 38.3%IACS after quenching at 900℃.
