Computer simulation technology has been developed as a comprehensive new disciplines nearly 30 years. NC machining process simulation is an important application of computer simulation technology in the field of NC machining. Taking the curved surfaces for NC machining simulation, and researching on the cutting process in virtual environment, it's helpful to observe the characteristics of CNC machine structure and movement, and also has practical significance to understand the theory of surface NC machining. Based on the above purposes, a NC milling simulation system oriented to test and teaching has been developed; it achieves a dynamic simulation of the machining process.Based on tools and methodologies for developing a general simulation system, a interactive 3D simulation environment has been built up using Visual C + + and OpenGL. Based on the development of functional requirements, the system achieves 3D graphics'display and synchronization control in a unified multi-window interface.Taking a universal CNC milling machine as the Simulation prototype, this thesis makes a detailed analysis on features of its basic structure and movement. Choosing OpenGL and Pro/E as the main modeling tools, it establishes a relatively complete system of virtual machine model. The model has the basic components of the universal machine, and meets data-driven requirements for the modular unit.The common processing technology of surface modeling and tool path planning method are studied, the system offered several surface modeling methods, provided optional path generating scheme and achieved the surface simulation machining in different tracks.Aimed at characteristics of NC machining, it builds a roughcast model based on Z-map structure, presents a Boolean operation and introduces its basic principles and procedures detailedly. Using this method, the simulation system can be expected to achieve real-cutting effect.Using OpenGL animation technology, a dynamic simulation result has been achieved. The basic logic relations among simulation of process controls are analyzed and properly handled, and an effective control of the simulation progress is achieved. By setting up reasonable parameters of graphics, a more realistic graphics has been displayed. The system possesses better real-time, interactive, a simple operation and a good reminder functions.
