Domestic wastewater treatment by a hybrid biological reactor is a new process to treat domestic wastewater. The hairbrush was used as biological membrane supporter in hybrid biological reactor. This test studied the organic removal efficiency under various conditions, investigated the function of suspended sludge layer in pollutant removal as well as the anti shock capability of this process. The result shows: that while the influent CODCr averages 378mg/L and HRT is 9.46h (micro aerobic column I (0.2mg/L2.0mg/L) possesses 5.92h ), temperature is 25℃, suspended sludge layers exist in both column, removal rates 92.67%of CODCr and 97.69%of BOD5 were obtained. The effluent CODCr (<30mg/L) and BOD5 (<7mg/L) can meet Sate Discharge Standard I. Suspended sludge layers play an important role in the pollutant removal. When HRT is 4.73h and 9.46h respectively, with suspended sludge layers, the CODCr removal rates attain 88.98% and 92.67%, which largely exceed the COD removal rates 68.93% and 77.83% without suspended sludge layers. The experiment with artificial sewage made of sugar, protein and detergent shows that suspended sludge layers perform theirs function mainly on non-degradable substance. The test also shows that this process has strong anti shock capability against acid,high loading and poison,owing to diverse microorganism inside and its high density. In short, this process has such advantages as less land possession, compact construction,simple regulation as well as high and stable pollution removal efficiency.
