Resin based artificial marble, mainly composed of resin, inorganic filler, pigment and other additives. It is a new kind luxurious decoration building material. Artificial marble not only looks like natural one, but is more flexible impact, oil-resistant and feel more comfortable. And it is now being used in a large quantity in some kind of fields. Now days, many manufactories use ATH as artificial marble filler, but because the high price and other reasons, we must looking for a replacement instead of ATH. Calcium sulfate dihydrate, also known as gypsum, is one of the most common minerals on earth. In addition to purity, whiteness and softness, calcium sulfate filler provides functional advantage such as flame retardant and similar refractive index to UP resin, so we can use it as filler to extend UP resin. But it high content filler will bring on the compound system are somewhat harder to roll out .so we must looking for a way to reducing system viscosity by lowering resin viscosity, the conclusions are drawn as follows:1. Viscosity of the system is influenced by several factors such as CaSO4·2H2O particle size. Proportion of the weight of CaSO4·2H2O to that of UP resin and ambient temperature. And compare the artificial marble's properties with CaSO4·2H2O and ATH ,we find they all have similar flame retardant, Barcol hardness, the light transmission; but for mechanical properties, the ATH sheets are better than CaSO4·2H2O powder sheets.2.Blend 30% weight proportion quartz to the CaSO4·2H2O filler , the viscosity , Barcol hardness, water resistance, tensile strength, impact strength of the system are 34.578Pa·S, 64.2Hba, 0.011%, 51.8Mpa, 5.502KJ/m2.3. In order to enhance the mechanical property of the composition system. We use the silane coupling agent WD-70 modified the filler. The experiment result shows, the optimum technical condition is as follows: surfactant dosage is 2%,modification temperature is 80℃, modification time is 15 min; under this condition ,active exponent of modified product is 0.904 and contact angle is 97.8.4. The research expresses that compare to the filler of ATH, use the modified powder with silane coupling agent modified as the filler of the artificial marble not only can enhance the mechanical properties of the composition system, but also can decrease the cost of artificial marble.
