In this article, copolymerization of Nylon 6 (PA6) and various molecular weight polyglycol (PEG) was prepared via anionic slurry polymerization in aliphatic hydrocarbon media with a vacuum condition , using sodium hydroxide as catalyst , aromatic or aliphatic isocyanate as activator. Changing the addition of polyglycol (PEG) , various granular or powder copolymer can be made. Testing the copolymer products by DTA , WXRD. And then, with the right condition , injecting the copolymer into standard sample bands. Their mechanical properties and had been tested , also had a DMA test.DTA results show that, PEG molecular weight and the amount of addition will affect the copolymer thermal behavior. Adding the second monomer in the amount of 1mol%, the melting point of the copolymer is the lowest. In general the melting point of copolymer is between 180℃and 200℃.This is a good thermal performance. X-ray diffraction results show that the crystalline properties of Nylon copolymer are more lower than Nylon. Copolymerization powder of nylon and polyglycol (PEG) is softer than all-nylon powder.The result of the mechanical properties test for the Nylon copolymer standard sample bands shows that the overall mechanical property of the Nylon copolymer is good , especially, the low temperature toughness of the product is excellent.Molecular weight and addition of the second monomer polyglycol (PEG) is only a reference, there are more work to do for seeking the best constitute.As a toughening additive, Nylon copolymer joining into the pure nylon can improve the mechanical properties of the pure nylon significantly.
