With the rapid development of the economy , there has been increasing consumption of fossil energy, and the global energy and environment problems are increasingly serious. For this reason the possibility of developing alternative energy sources to replace traditional fossil fuels has been receiving a large interest in the last few decades.Biodiesel, which can be gained from the renewable biological resource, has become one of the most important alternative fuels which attracts much attention in the world. And it is one of the typical green energy and regarded as an excellent substitute for petroleum diesel fuel.Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) are generally classified as biodiesel fuels which are produced by a catalytic transesterification of fats and oils, waste oil with methanol. The main advantages of using this alternative fuel are its low viscosity, high flash point, high cetane number, and it is also nontoxic and biodegradable,it can also reduce greenhouse gas emission.Biodiesel is of great significance to solve global warming, acid rain and human environment improvement, the realization of sustainable economic development.A study was first made for the homogeneous catalysis reaction of transesterification and esterification of soy acidic oil by means of methanol, using H2SO4.The operation variables such as the molar ratio of methanol to oil, catalyst concentration, temperature, and time has been studied, optimal reaction condition was selected . The effect of the operation variables on the reaction degree of transesterification and esterification was also studied.Based on this,a production process was designed using soy acidic oil as raw material and sulfuric acid as catalyst for industrial production. The middle test was carried out and optimal process parameters were gained.Various performance indicators of biodiesel basically reached Chinese, American and the European biodiesel standards in this study, which made them a good substitute for diesel fuel.
