Given its toxic and complex nature, landfill leachate needs to be well treated before being discharged into the surrounding enrionment. In this study, the combination of coagulation-activated carbon/hydrogen peroxide processes was designed for treating the landfill leachate with the high organic content. The optimum treatment conditions were examined through conducting a serious of experiments. For coagulation,FeCl3 was chosen as the coagulant agent. The optimum operating conditions was ferric chloride dose of 200mg/L and pH of 4.For activated carbon/hydrogen peroxide oxidation, the optimized conditions were room temperature,pH of 3,hydrogen peroxide dosage of 5ml/L,activated carbon/hydrogen peroxide stoichiometric ratio of 1:2 and reaction time of 120min.After being treated by the coagulation-activated carbon/hydrogen peroxide processes, the removal rates for CODcr,UV254,UV410 and UV436 levels in the target landfill leachate were improved significantly up to as much as 89.44%,82.13%,90.625%and91.35%,respectively.CODcr was lowered by 89.44%to 75.69mg/L. Moreover, the quality of the effluent from the sequential processes treatment meets the emission standard set by the State Standard for Municipal Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill Pollution Control(Standard No GB16889-2008).
