Carbon foams are porous and sponge materials with many novel features such as high temperature tolerance,adjustable thermal and electrical conductivity,and large specific surface area with open cell structures.These materials are attractive and promising candidates for using and application in thermal management, microwave absorption,super capacitors aircraft brakes,catalytic support and electrodes and so on.But the carbon foam has the irregular geometry shape,so studies on thermal properties of carbon foam are always conducted through experiment to analyze instead of quantitative evaluation method to explain.In order to make carbon foam having a more widespread application under different environment,carbon foam must be strong intensity,and the thermal properties and mechanical property must be controllable.The micro-structure of carbon foam was analyzed based on fractal theory in this paper,on the basis of the porous materials obtained by experiments shape,make use of the graphic analytic technology aided by computer,this paper carry on the research on the characteristic of fractal of cell structures of foam according to fractal theory.And calculated the fractal dimension of its section to establish a material structure model,a simplified heat-conduction model for carbon foam has been constructed successfully,and then figured out its coefficient of thermal conduction by using the equivalent thermal resistance method.Thus carbon foam thermal properties influence factor could be analyzed quantitative.The result shows that the calculated value from this method is conformity with the reported actual data.This proves the fractal model fairly reasonable.Therefore,to some extent such a method owns the guiding significance to the research on the thermal-physical property of porous materials.In order to make the performance of carbon foam to be more perfect,this paper studied the preparation of high strength thermoelectricity controllable carbon foam, compared with effects of microstructure of mesophase pitch precursor on the compression behavior of carbon foam.High strength and thermoelectricity controllable carbon foam has been prepared through modified adding montmorillonite clay,metal catalyst,and reaction mechanism has been detailed analyzed.This provided the foundation for carbon foam more widespread application.
