More and more interests have been concentrated on the behaviors and processes of nitrogen and phosphor as they are regarded as the major index factors for eutrophication of water bodies. Based on the observation data between 2006-2008 in Lake Wulangsuhai, the purification abilities of Phragmites for eutrophic elements in the lake were analyzed, which is one of the main aquatic plants. The relationship between distribution, productivity, and total biomass of Phragmites and the distribution of the concentrations of TN and TP was analyzed. Meanwhile a set of constructed purification experiment was carried out in the field. The objective is trying to quantify the purification degree of Phragmites for TN and TP. To this objective, a model was built up to simulate the TN and TP natural degradation regulation within the lake without the effects of Phragmites. The results showed that Phragmites takes a very important role by means of purification of eutrophication in the lake.
