Nanocrystalline metallic nanoparticles have been extensively studied because of their use in many applications including magnetic fluids, magnetic recording media and catalysis. In particular, nanostructured Ni particles have important applications ranging from magnetic sensors to memory devices. So nanostructured Ni has attracted much attention recently. Because of convenience of operation and easy control, sol-gel method has been extensively applied in the synthesis of oxidate nanoparticles. But this method has the problem of easily being oxygenized during the synthesis of nanocrystalline metallic nanoparticles. So nowadays the reports about using this method to synthesize nanocrystalline metallic nanoparticles seldom occur. In this work, during the process of sintering the precursors, the carbon monoxide with reducing power will be given off, which effectively solves the problem of oxygenization. The face-centered-cubic(FCC) Ni and Co-doped nanoparticles have been synthesized using heat-treating technique with the precursors prepared by sol-gel method at different temperatures in argon atmosphere respectively. The structure, morphology, phase transformation and magnetic properties of the samples have been studied through X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM).
